Dance in Vancouver, February 11-15, 2004

Mainstage performances, curated by Brian Webb, Artistic Director of Canada Dance Festival and Brian Webb Dance Company, feature both emerging and more established companies: Kinesis Dance and Company Erasga, both developing international profiles; Cori Caulfield, Lola Dance and Joe Ink, starting to extend their touring beyond Canadian borders; and fresh new voices Anatomica and MovEnt.

Studio presentations offer informal showings of new creations by some intriguing artists: Martha Carter, whose dynamic work fuses classical dance with club music and culture; Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg, known for her deft comedy and theatrical versatility; Dancers Dancing, directed by former Martha Graham Company principal Judith Garay; Yukon-based LINK Dance Foundation; Raven Spirit Dance Company, whose work is rooted in traditional First Nations stories; Science Friction Productions, a young company experimenting with interdisciplinary work; and Sharon Wehner Solo Dance, featuring a remarkable dancer who recently returned to the stage after a fourteen year absence. Roundtable discussions cover topics such as exporting cultural products; dance, performance and technology; and touring dance. There will of course be many informal opportunities to network with artists and other presenters.
