TARA is the story of a brother and sister, conjoined twins, and their discovery as teenagers that their physical separation was manipulated by their mother and grandfather to favor the boy. With wit and pathos, Dattani deals with the complicated dynamics of the urban Indian family, societal gender preferences, and expresses the universal tendency to objectify those who are different, while exploring the personal journey of coming to terms with the feminine side of oneself in a world that always favors what is "male."
