1. Academic Position: Art History (Art in the Americas)
The University of Western Ontario, Department of Visual Arts, invites applications for a Tenure Track position in Art History, Theory and Criticism at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will specialize in the Art of the Americas in the context of contemporary theoretical frameworks. Other areas of research and teaching specialization should include one or more of the following: Canadian art, contemporary art, museum studies, architecture, aboriginal art, and post-colonial studies. A PhD and a strong record of teaching and research are required. In addition to scholarly publication, alternative research initiatives including curatorial projects, websites, and materials-based projects will be viewed favorably by the committee. Teaching will include undergraduate courses as well as graduate seminars in the candidate's specific area(s) of expertise. The appointee will be expected to contribute to the academic life of a dynamic Department where art history and theory, and studio arts flourish together. DEADLINE: JANUARY 30, 2004
2. Academic Position: Media Theorist/Practitioner
The University of Western Ontario, Department of Visual Arts, invites applications for a Tenure Track position integrating Studio Practice and Art History, Theory and Criticism at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will specialize in Media Arts focusing on the relationship between historical and contemporary technologies. Areas of research/practice and teaching specialization should include one or more of the following: photography, digital imaging, information and communications technologies, audio, robotics, and contemporary gallery practice. A PhD or MFA and a strong record of teaching and research are required. In addition to exhibitions and scholarly publications, alternative research initiatives including curatorial projects and websites will be viewed favorably by the committee. Teaching will include undergraduate courses in Studio and Art History, Theory and Criticism as well as graduate seminars in the candidate's specific area(s) of expertise. 3. Academic Position: Art History (Modern Art - Museums/Media Art History)
The University of Western Ontario, Department of Visual Arts, invites applications for a Probationary Tenure Track position in Art History, Theory and Criticism at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will specialize in Modern Art of the 19th and 20th Centuries. Areas of research and teaching specialization should include museum and curatorial studies and new media art. Other research and teaching interests may include contemporary art, film history, aboriginal art, post colonial studies, and craft and design histories. A PhD and a strong record of teaching and research are required. In addition to scholarly publication, alternative research initiatives including curatorial projects, websites, and materials-based projects will be viewed favorably by the committee. Teaching will include undergraduate courses as well as graduate seminars in the candidate's specific area(s) of expertise.
