Gallery Outreach Worker
Full-time one month contract
(February 3-March 6: average 35 hours per week)
Wage: $12.00 per hour
Weekends and variable shifts
Oakville Galleries is searching for an outgoing and personable individual to
staff The Contemporary Roadshow, an information booth on the galleries'
collection to appear in various Oakville public venues throughout the month
of February 2004. The Gallery Outreach Worker will invite members of the
public to choose their favorite works from reproductions displayed in the
booth. He/she will offer information on contemporary art and engage in
discussion on the role of the public art gallery in the community. The
Contemporary Roadshow is part of a broad outreach initiative that culminates
this Spring in an exhibition featuring the Town's most popular works from
Oakville Galleries' permanent collection.
The ideal should have a degree or diploma in History of Art, Art Education,
Visual and/or Media Arts B.A./B.F.A. and knowledge of visual arts practice.

Animateur
Part-time (18-24 hours per week)
Wage: $12.00 per hour
Under the direct supervision of the Head of Public Programmes of Oakville
Galleries, the Animateur will engage the public in our programme of
temporary contemporary exhibitions through discussion activities.
Independent study is complemented with participation in a team-approach to
the development of education programmes.
Duties of the Animateur include developing visitors' knowledge of
exhibitions through informal talks with groups or individuals, leading
school group programmes that emphasize hands-on activities, assisting with
special events and monitoring the security and maintenance of the exhibition
as well as ensuring its access to the public during gallery hours
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should be fluently bilingual and have knowledge of /or
experience in the delivery of public programmes, a degree or diploma in
History of Art, Art Education, Visual and/or Media Arts B.A./B.F.A./Master's
degree is an asset, and knowledge of visual arts practice. Applicants should
also be available to work a variety of shifts on weekdays, evenings and
weekends.
