Dragon River Shadow Theatre
Celebrate the Year of the Monkey with Dragon River Shadow Theatre's delightful shadow screen production of Monkey Tales. These ancient stories—well known in classical Asian literature and popularized through Chinese TV series, comics, Japanese anime and mainstream media—feature the much loved and clever, magical and eternally mischievous Monkey King. Bringing this charming rascal to life are Vancouver's finest Chinese shadow puppeteers—Zhungxi Wu, who grew up amidst the folk tradition of shadow puppetry in his home of Heilongjiang in the Black Dragon River province of northeastern China, and West Vancouver's Karen Wong, who has worked with Chinese shadow puppetry in New York and China, and with Vancouver Moving Theatre's six-time Jessie nominated Tales from the Ramayana.
