Praxis and Citytv Announce Cultural Diversity Bursaries

Praxis and Citytv are proud to announce a new series of Cultural Diversity Bursaries to assist visible minority screenwriters.

In an effort to develop new Canadian stroytelling talent and expand the pool of quality screenplays available to broadcasters, Citytv will support an aboriginal or a visible minority British Columbia-based screenwriter in upcoming Praxis Spring courses.

This Spring¹s programming includes some of Praxis¹ most popular courses: Unconscious Motives (March 13 & 14) with Carolyn Mamchur and Lydia Kwa, a weekend that will explore character psychology; Fundamentals of Screenwriting (April 22 May 31), an introductory lecture series with Marlene Rodgers and a hands-on workshop with Karen X. Tulchinsky (participants can register for one or both); and The Comic Toolbox (May 14 16), featuring renowned author John Vorhaus.

Citytv is also continuing its support of writers in other Praxis programs. Citytv provides the Cultural Diversity Fellowship for each round of the Praxis Screenplay Competition (deadlines every June 30th and December 1st) and also supports one of these writers in the Summer Readings. Competition applicants simply need to check off the Cultural Diversity box on the submission form to be eligible.

Citytv also supports a participant in the Praxis Story Editor Internship, in which budding story editors work alongside professionals during the Summer Readings. The deadline for this program is April 15.

A limited number of Bursaries are available for each course. Those interested in applying must submit a letter and brief resume or biography at least two weeks before the start of the program they are applying for.
