VAHMS Employment Opportunities
Two temporary job experience opportunities are available at the Vancouver Asian Heritage Month Society in cooperation with the HRDC Job Creation Partnership Work Experience Program.
The Vancouver Asian Heritage Month Society is a non-profit society that presents the annual explorASIAN Festival - a multidisciplinary festival featuring visual arts, music, dance, comedy, film and video with over 100 events throughout the month of May. May is Asian Heritage Month in Canada.
Job Descriptions:
1. Volunteer Coordinator
The Volunteer Coordinator will develop, coordinate and implement the volunteer program for the explorASIAN 2004 Festival. Duties will include recruitment, orientation, scheduling, and managing the volunteers. The Volunteer Coordinator will also assist in developing training manuals on recruitment, orientation, scheduling and management of the volunteers for the Society's use. Some evenings and weekend shifts required during the month of May. Salary is $413.00/week (40 hours) and is paid directly by HRDC.
2. Information Coordinator
The Information Coordinator will develop and produce an information database for the explorASIAN 2004 Festival. Duties will include research, data entry, and contact management. The Information Coordinator will assist in creating specific reports, mailing lists, contact lists, and other information summaries for the Society's use. The Information Coordinator will also assist in producing newsletters and implementing promotional mail-outs for the Society. Some evenings and weekend shifts required during the month of May. Salary is $413.00/week (40 hours) and is paid directly by HRDC.
General Qualifications & Requirements:
Applicants must be currently on EI or have been on EI in the last three years. Verification will be provided by HRDC prior to hiring. Computer experience and knowledge of Microsoft Windows 2000/XP, Microsoft Office, Internet/Email, and a database or contact management software program is necessary. Must be able to work in a fast-paced, culturally diverse, people-oriented environment and be a team player. Must be available to work some evenings and weekends during the month of May.
