MIX FLICKS SHORT FILM COMPETITION
After two successful rounds of competition, CBC Television¹s MIX FLICKS continues the hunt for original and compelling stories about cultural intersections in Canadian life. Filmmakers are asked to submit dramatic projects that reflect the fusion of cultures in Canada with stories ranging from the everyday to the extraordinary from comic to intense. Friday, July 9 marks the competition¹s third round submission deadline.
MIX FLICKS is a nation-wide initiative that demonstrates CBC Television¹s ongoing commitment to both cultural diversity and innovative programming. These independently produced dramatic short films, 5 to 10 minutes in length, are meant to illustrate genuine slices of life from across the country and to help showcase the budding creativity of up-and-coming Canadian filmmakers.
It¹s not about the stories of one culture or another, says Rae Hull, Senior Director of Network Programming. As the title suggests it¹s about the mix how we bump into each other in ways that can be poignant, provocative, uplifting or hilarious.
After airing on CBC Television's creative launch-pad ZeD, three completed projects are currently gathering awards and have been invited to screen at various festivals across the country. A fourth project is scheduled to air on Canadian Reflections this summer, and five additional films from the last round are currently in various stages of production.
MIX FLICKS is searching for the next round of projects, up to 6 in total, to be awarded a maximum license fee of $20,000 and broadcast slots on ZeD, Canadian Reflections and/or regional streams.
