Japanese Woodblock Printing
Sat. Sept 25 & Sat. Oct. 2
10 am – 4pm
Instructor: Elizabeth Forrest
From the tradition of the Japanese Ukiyoe prints up to the present time, this water based method of woodblock printmaking continues to offer a unique aesthetic.
Students will spend the first Saturday transferring and carving their image into the woodblock. The second week will focus on an introduction to printing techniques. Authentic carving and printing tools will be provided, along with 2 woodblocks, printing pigments and Japanese kozo papers. (it is suggested that students bring a strong handled exacto knife for straight cutting and an image they would like to work with). Students are able to complete a small edition of good quality colour prints in these workshops.
Artist, Elizabeth Forrest studied this form of printmaking in Japan, where she lived for 11 years. She now works and exhibits in this medium.
