TYPE A –TAIPEI: AN URBAN SYMPHONY

Type "A" behaviors, in psychology term, include such traits as extreme ambition and competitiveness, impatience, time pressure and a high degree of propensity to anger and hostility. Is Taipei, one of the world’s urban miracles that embrace economic power and abundant cultural resources, Type A? “Type A – Taipei” is a new live multi-media work specifically created for the TCF this year. Integrating Taiwanese-Canadian photographer David Hou’s breath-taking images of urbanity Taipei, and Ya-wen Vivienne Wang’s composition with recorded soundscape of the city, this urban symphony will require live audience’s participation. The audience will be divided into different “orchestral” sections: “cellphony” players, “body” percussionists, vocalists, and “tape“ players, led to create certain musical patterns/textures and manipulate the Cassette players playing back tracks pre-arranged by the composer. Visuals, Sounds, Live Interactions, “Type A – Taipei” will be performed by the audiences conducted by Ya-wen Vivienne Wang, assisted by Didi Lin.
