Voice Cultivation From a South Asian Perspective
Azalea Ray and Sally Jones team up for this innovative class in vocal development, offered by Rasik Arts. Azalea Ray, a classical Hindustani singer, will guide you through the basics of vocal production according to the techniques used in north Indian classical music, which emphasizes the ‘natural voice’. You will practice breathing and sound production in order to develop richer vocal tonality. Director Sally Jones will focus on ‘sound and sense’/clarity of communication, including articulation exercises, the difference between Hinglish and North American enunciation, phrasing, and the connection between breath and meaning. Participants should bring a poem or favorite passage from a book to work with. Class size will be limited to 12 people.
