AION art gallery is proud to announce Vancouver artist Sally Lee’s first major solo exhibition “P.’s Matter”. The show of the Hong Kong born painter opens Thursday, October 14th, with the Artist In Attendance, and will be on display until November 6th. With her small collection of ten abstract-expressionistic paintings Sally Lee’s first aim is to amuse the spectator. In this series she perfected her painterly technique of transforming black and white sketches of expressive power in rich pastel colours on large scale canvases. She thereby created an intense, warm embracing and alluring atmosphere.

Sally Lee’s paintings seldom talk directly about the concept that lies behind. They encourage, but do not pressure the spectator to perceive the paintings as a mirror. In the series “P.’s matter” she invites to explore the complex microcosm of the public washroom. With “Age_ing”, “Listen_ing”, “Give_ing”, “Happen_ing”, and “Be_ing” for example she scrutinizes the in-between spaces and relationships that occur when people interact with the physical space of public washrooms. “By taking out or enlarging the different moments and activities that take place in this space, I am interested in exploring how and where these can be inserted back into the whole picture”, states Sally.
