In July 2004, eight-inch square frames were made available to some of Canada’s favourite artists with the expectation that these simple pine supports would inspire new original pieces of art for the Textile Museum of Canada’s annual Shadow Box Auction. The results have been nothing less than spectacular, with each wooden square having evolved into a unique, inventive and collectable work of art.

The shadow boxes, created by over 160 artists including Dorothy Caldwell, Kai Chan, Barbara Todd and Susan Warner Keene, will be available for preview at the Textile Museum of Canada from Wednesday October 13 to Thursday October 21. The Artists’ Reception on Wednesday October 13, will present an excellent opportunity for audiences to meet the artists and learn more about the works available for bid.

The BMO Financial Group Shadow Box Silent Auction & Cocktail Party 2004 will be held at the Textile Museum on Thursday October 21, beginning at 6: 30pm. Participants will enjoy cooling libations and delightful edibles while they engage in friendly bidding competitions over their favourite shadow boxes. All proceeds from the event and sale of the shadow boxes will go to support the Textile Museum of Canada’s exhibitions and educational programs.
