World Dance Alliance Global Assembly - Call to Artists
Dance/Diversity/Dialogue: Bridging Nations and Cultures
York University, Toronto Canada, July 17 to 21, 2006
The World Dance Alliance Global Assembly will feature performances by local, national and international dance artists, workshops for dancers, a youth program, and a conference focusing on the 5 areas that form the basis of the World Dance Alliance: Creation and Presentation, Management and Promotion, Research and Documentation, Education and Training, and Status and Welfare. It will celebrate the York University Dance Department’s move into new facilities consisting of 8 dance studios, numerous lecture and seminar rooms, and a 300-seat proscenium theatre.
The Performance Committee seeks applications from Canadian dance groups and individual dance artists who wish to perform at the Global Assembly. We are interested in a diverse range of dance forms including aboriginal, traditional, fusion and contemporary dance. Representations from youth, seniors and the physically challenged are also encouraged. We are very interested in performance for alternate venues such as outdoors, lobbies, sculpture areas, etc. Repertoire should have minimal technical requirements because of limited time available to tech numerous performing groups.
Transportation, accommodation, per diem and a small honorarium will be covered for national groups for a total of three days; however, if your group has access to travel funding, please let us know. Local performers will receive a small honorarium. To perform, the group must be a member of WDA at the time of the Assembly.
To apply for a performance opportunity:
- Your proposed performance work should be 20 minutes or less in length.
- Send a copy of the proposed performance work on DVD or VHS. 20 minutes MAXIMUM. Label your material clearly with name of group or artist, name of work, venue, date of performance.
- Support material should include: CV, description of proposed work, essential technical requirements. Include the name of the group or artist, contact name, mailing address, phone, fax and email address.
Application deadline: September 1, 2005.
