Co. ERASGA invited to renowned Festivals
Dates set for Europe and South America
Co. ERASGA Dance Society is pleased to announce that two of its latest works – Field: Land is the belly of man and OrienTik/Portrait – will tour three countries this fall. The tour will signal another exciting chapter for Co. ERASGA, and will spur the company to reach new audiences, and continue its dance and cultural work abroad.
First on the agenda is the 5th International Festival Danse En Vol, from October 7-8, 2005 where Co. ERASGA will perform OrienTik/Portrait, its latest full-length work for two dancers and two musicians. The invitation received from this festival is a result of Tolentino’s participation in the Canadian-Belgium Dance Exchange, and the warm reception and acclaim received from the European public in 2003.
OrienTik/Portrait - a dynamic multi-media and milestone dance production - was developed during an Artist-in-Residency at the Scotiabank Dance Centre, and presented in July as part of The 2005 Dancing on the Edge Festival in Vancouver. The show represents the first time that Co. ERASGA brings together a full cast to explore the fusion of Asian aesthetics, contemporary dance, taiko drum and adapted classical music.
“ … marks the beginning of what should be a long, prosperous life for his dynamic creation“ Kelsey Dundon, Georgia Straight
Co. ERASGA will also perform OrienTik/Portrait in France, as a co-production with L’ecole de Musique et Danse in Laon, with tentative dates at the Canadian Cultural Centre in Paris, and possibly The Cultural Project Factory in Gijon, Spain.
The last country on the international tour will be Venezuela, where Co. ERASGA is confirmed to perform Field: Land is the belly of man at the renowned 13th International Maracaibo Dance Festival. The festival organizer will promote Co. ERASGA in seven South American cities, with performances in Caracas, Margarita Island, Maracaibo City, Cabimas, Valera and Barinas.
Field: Land is the belly of man, is a captivating one-man tour-de-force, choreographed and performed by Alvin Erasga Tolentino. The show pays homage to the land and people, and the effects of globalization on traditional methods of harvest and farming. The show has evolved during three separated residencies in Manila, Belgium, and Vancouver, and has also been seen in Croatia, France, Toronto, Montreal and Singapore.
Co. ERASGA gratefully acknowledges the support of Canada Council for the Arts, the Province of British Columbia through the BC Arts Council, the City of Vancouver through the Office of Cultural Affairs, and the Department of Foreign Affairs, as well as its co-production partners.
