The Vancouver International Centre for Contemporary Asian Art

Centre A is seeking proposals for its new space in the former B.C. Electric Railway Building in Downtown Eastside Vancouver. Centre A is a non-profit public gallery
committed to presenting projects that sustains an open yet critical approach to
what Asia may mean as a cultural category in the context of larger social concerns and contexts. It supports the work of Canadian artists locally, nationally and abroad and exposes Vancouver to international contemporary art.

Artists at all levels, curators, collectives, cultural groups/community-based
organizations and partners are invited to submit proposals for exhibitions,
performances, residencies, collaborations, and special projects. Proposals can
involve any medium and include proposals for off-site venues, public art spaces,
even virtual spaces. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may
have or to discuss your proposal. Projects are considered by curatorial staff on
an ongoing basis. Allow eight weeks for response.

GALLERY SPECIFICATIONS

Our new ground floor gallery features 3,000 sq. ft. of open exhibition space, 25
ft ceilings, brick walls, concrete floors, and large windows with minimal light
control. Centre A also houses a library and resource centre and operates as a
meeting place for many different people. The gallery is located in one of
Vancouver's oldest, dynamic and diverse downtown neighbourhoods between Gastown
and Chinatown, and within walking distance of many other active art spaces
including Access, Artspeak, Gallery Gachet, Interurban, and the Helen Pitt.
