Yang Hong, Weather or Not
This theme of weather reflected my thought processes and choices in my work, whether they were decisive or indecisive. There are many parallels between my method of working and the characteristics of weather. I see these parallels as simultaneously abstract, and concrete. You cannot see wind, but you can see and hear its effects, you cannot touch the colours in the sky, but you can see them. In the same way, my notion of finding happiness is not expressed directly, because, like the weather, it is a fleeting property.

Matt Killen, Broken Buildings, Stormy Skies
My work deals principally with the elaboration of an aesthetic of entropy; the series of paintings I am proposing to exhibit represent images of urban decay. In an attempt to further bring out the unconventional aesthetic qualities of the desolate images, I have chosen to forgo a realistic palette in favour of a brighter, more colourful one. Additionally, many of the images’ details have been obscured by painterly brushstroke in an effort to further reinforce the entropic qualities of the paintings.
