The Crown Royal Multicultural Hockey Tournament
In less than two weeks, approximately 20,000 Torontonians will witness an event that is making history in Canadian hockey. The Crown Royal Multicultural Hockey Tournament is poised to inaugurate the best of multicultural hockey. The Canadian Multicultural Hockey (CMHL) Inc. has passionately assembled an exciting roster of sixteen teams of diverse ethnic background who will play a total of 38 games between Scarborough Arena Gardens and Ted Reeve Arena, from Dec. 27—30, offering Canadian families, in the participating communities, the perfect holiday season entertainment.
The Crown Royal Multicultural Hockey Tournament is about to become a reality because sponsors like Crown Royal, proud Title sponsor, Rogers OMNI Television, exclusive Television Sponsor, along with Coffee Time, Metohos, and a host of allied organizations including Hockey Canada and the Hockey Hall of Fame, and individuals such as Mark Osborne and Peter Zezel, former players of the Toronto Maple Leafs, all believed in CMHL’s innovative hockey concept, and wanted to support it.
The tournament not only promises tremendous excitement from a spectator’s perspective but it will also benefit whole communities, causes and individuals, in a multitude of ways: the recipient of the Canadian Cup will present their team’s charity of choice with a $5,000 donation; the winners of the Consolation round will be awarded the Heritage Bowl; the Metro Toronto Police and the Toronto Fire Department will play an exhibition hockey game on Dec. 28th at 4:00 p.m., at Scarborough Gardens, to benefit Variety Village. The tournament is also making it possible for non-traditional hockey playing communities to embrace the game. In addition, CMHL’s tournament regulations require the game to be played non-contact and to fully support this aspect and encourage great sportsmanship, Crown Royal will recognize one MVP from each team at every game throughout the tournament, and at the final game, will present a $1,000 cash award to the most exemplar of all players, who are required to be 19 years and older, and Canadian citizens. This will be truly Canadian!
Tickets for each of the 38 games are $5.00 and may be purchased on www.ticketweb.com or by calling 1-888-222-6608. Volunteers wishing to get involved may call 905-274-1620. For additional information on the upcoming Crown Royal Multicultural Tournament, please visit www.cmhl.ca
