Are you an Asian/ South Asian/ Pacific Islander youth living in the G.T.A?
Do you want the chance to learn writing, spoken word, hiphop and
performance skillz and Asian histories of activism and resistance?
The Asian Arts Freedom School is a new project of ASAO, a Toronto
group of Asian/ Pacific Islander (API) activist rappers, spoken
word artists, musicians, writers and beatboxers. we want to teach
radical API history you don't learn in school + writing &
performance skills. each workshop will be an opportunity to learn
a different skill (performing your work, beatboxing, using movement
) to create new pieces and to learn about different aspects of our
histories.
Our first Freedom School is happening this summer, every Tuesday
5:30-7:30 pm from July 11- August 29, 2006. The school will be held
at the Kapisanan Phillipine Arts Centre 167 Augusta Ave in
Kensington Market. All workshops are FREE, and we'll have good food
and free tokens. To us Asian= East Asian, SouthEast Asian, South
Asian, West Asian (a.k.a. Arab or Middle-Eastern), mixed-race,
adoptee, suburban, hood, just got here or been here since the
1800s.from the Phillipines to Palestine, North China to Sri Lanka
