Canada renews levy in cheap Chinese bikes
THE CANADIAN PRESS
The Canadian International Trade Tribunal has renewed a five-year-old anti-dumping levy on bicycles from China and Chinese Taipei.
The tribunal found that Chinese bicycles are being dumped in Canada and are likely to harm the Canadian industry.
It says the products should continue to be subject to anti-dumping duties.
But the tribunal found that imports of Chinese bicycle frames are not likely to harm the industry and it ruled they should no longer face anti-dumping duties.
The tribunal is an independent, quasi-judicial body that reports to Parliament through the finance minister.
It hears cases on dumped and subsidized imports, safeguard complaints, complaints about federal government procurement and appeals of customs and excise-tax rulings.
