Sears Canada recalls children's bicycles

(CBC) - Sears Canada issued a safety recall notice on Friday for children's bicycles that the company says contain higher than permissible levels of lead.

The recall involves two types of the Spirit(R) bicycle: the Boys 12" Bebop and the Girls 12" Lubop. They were sold at Sears Canada retail stores, as well as through the Sears Canada catalogue and the company's website, between May 1, 2007, and March 14, 2008.

The same models produced after that time period are not involved in the recall and meet safety standards, Sears said in a news release.

Customers are advised to look for the item number printed on the receipt and the serial number located on the underside of the pedal crank assembly to identify whether their bike falls under the recall.

The company said customers should return the bikes to the nearest Sears store for a refund. It said it will be posting signs in all of its retail stores to let customers know about the recall.

For more information, they can also call 1-800-469-4663.
